Visiting the GDC Gingin Observatory

The GDC Gingin Observatory is part of the Gravity Precinct and shares this special piece of pristine bushland with the Gravity Discovery Centre, AIGO research centre and the famous Zadko telescope enabling visitors to experience science in an extraordinary number of ways.

The Observatory boasts a fully retractable roof, state of the art telescopes and amazing WA dark sky, offering visitors a world class astronomy experience. Souvenirs are available for purchase at the GDC shop.

The Observatory, is situated at Yeal, between Yanchep National Park and the township of Gingin. Twelve kilometres off Indian Ocean Drive (Wanneroo Road) and twenty five kilometres from Brand Highway (near the Gingin turnoff), we are within an hour to an hour and a half from Perth and surrounds providing close access to have this truly unique experience.

Night Visits

Public night visits are offered on Friday, Saturday & Sunday evenings currently from 8:00pm until 10:00pm.

All observatory tours including the aboriginal astronomy night include a 30 minute presentation, laser tour of the night sky and observing through telescopes in our observatory.

Access to the entire Gravity Discovery Centre is included in every Observatory ticket, so why not come a little earlier and explore the exhibits!

Aboriginal Astronomy

Join us for one of our Aboriginal Astronomy sessions where you will sit with Indigenous elder, Dr Noel Nannup, and and learn about the Aboriginal dream time stories of creation.

You will then head over to our observatory where you will look through our telescopes at the wonders of our universe.

  • Booking for night sessions are essential via the button below or call 08 9575 7577.
  • These sessions are subject to weather conditions and number of attendees.
  • The Café is open for dinner until 7.30pm. Bookings are essential.

    Cancellations are permitted as long as the Observatory is notified 24 hours prior to the booked session. You are welcome to reschedule your visit for another evening. Refunds are only given for exceptional circumstances
